Module 3
Foundations for Effective Modern Classroom Management
Module 3: The Learner
Module 3 delves into various aspects of student education, including understanding learning styles, exploring the concept of multiple intelligences in the learning process, recognizing and meeting educational needs, employing differentiation strategies, investigating the causes of student misbehaviors, addressing and managing student misbehaviors, grasping student interests, and integrating those interests into classroom activities.
Instructions:
Watch the provided input sessions, make notes, and answer the reflection questions that come afterward.
In this input session, we examine students' learning styles, focusing on the Visual, Auditory, and Kinaesthetic (VAK) preferences. Understanding these preferences enhances engagement and effectiveness in teaching. We explore VAK breakdowns and emphasize variety in teaching methods to cater to diverse learner appetites. Strategies include conducting VAK audits, creating diverse teaching methods, and observing student responses. Practical examples include visual presentations, read-alouds, role-playing, and more. Conducting a VAK audit involves preparing surveys, analyzing data, and planning differentiated instruction. Flexibility and differentiation ensure every learner can thrive in the classroom.
In this input session, we explore Multiple Intelligences (MI) in student learning, where Howard Gardner's theory challenges the notion of singular intelligence. We outline eight types of intelligences, from linguistic to naturalistic, each with its strengths. Educators can incorporate MI into teaching through assessing students' intelligences, differentiated instruction, varied approaches, flexible projects, collaborative learning, self-assessment, real-world connections, and individualized support. Examples of MI activities include multimodal presentations, gallery walks, role-plays, learning stations, nature observation, group debates, and multimedia storytelling. These strategies create a diverse and inclusive learning environment catering to students' unique strengths and preferences.
In this input session, we embark on a journey to understand students' educational needs. Educational needs encompass personalized requirements crucial for academic growth and well-being. Exploring various types like academic, social-emotional, cultural-linguistic, special education, GATE, technology integration, life skills, family engagement, and health needs, we aim for a holistic approach to student support. To identify these needs, we rely on observation, assessment, communication, collaboration, and data analysis as our guiding checkpoints. It's a comprehensive strategy ensuring no student's needs are overlooked, fostering an environment conducive to learning and growth.
In this input session, we explore strategies for addressing students' academic needs comprehensively. Part 1 focuses on techniques for identifying these needs, including surveys, performance assessment, feedback mechanisms, observation, and collaborative discussions among faculty. Part 2 delves into effective strategies for addressing identified needs. These include differentiated instruction, small group instruction, individualized learning plans, peer tutoring, continuous assessment, targeted interventions, and technology integration. Each strategy aims to personalize learning, ensuring every student receives tailored support and guidance for academic success. It's about creating a dynamic learning environment where every student thrives.
In this input session, we go over differentiation strategies tailored for inclusive classrooms, using practical examples within an English class context. Pre-assessment helps tailor instruction to individual needs. Personalized learning plans, like Alex's, address specific challenges with collaborative goals and accommodations. Flexible grouping optimizes diverse reading abilities through role-based discussions. Choice-based assignments empower students with self-expression avenues like poetry or short stories. Scaffolding gradually removes support in teaching complex concepts, akin to learning to ride a bike. Varied materials, interest-based projects, and tiered assignments offer diverse learning experiences. Technology integration and choice boards personalize learning modalities and content options. Learning stations and menus of assessments provide dynamic, interactive, and self-selected learning paths.
In this input session, we analyze the root causes of student misbehavior in classrooms. Lack of engagement kicks off the list, where disinterest leads to disruptive behavior. Emotional and social factors follow, highlighting stress and peer conflicts. Lack of structure or consistency creates chaos, while individual needs and learning differences require personalized support. Environmental factors like noise disrupt learning. Home and community influences, along with physical or mental health issues, impact behavior. Lack of motivation, peer influence, and academic difficulties also contribute. Armed with this insight, educators can navigate these challenges to foster a positive learning environment.
In this input session, we explore various student misbehaviors and effective strategies to address them. Types of misbehaviors include disruptive behavior, noncompliance, aggression, inattention, disrespect, and academic dishonesty. For disruptive behavior, clear expectations, proximity control, and immediate feedback promote harmony. Noncompliance is tackled with communication, autonomy, and positive reinforcement. Aggression demands safety measures, conflict resolution skills, and support. Inattention is addressed through engaging lessons and visual cues. Disrespect requires leading by example and fostering empathy. Academic dishonesty is countered with clear rules, integrity teachings, varied assessments, and extra support. These strategies aim to cultivate a positive classroom environment.

Dear Mr.Ossama, thank you very much for offering us another course. I also attended your last course, which was very pragmatic. After watching the videos of Module 1, I will come back and share my thoughts. Regards
ReplyDeleteI found multiple intelligences, recognizing and meeting educational needs and employing differentiation strategies sensible and practical. I found these so because of their relevance and updated approach to tackle the needs of the 21st century.
ReplyDeleteIn my virtual classroom, a student kept interrupting the lesson with irrelevant comments, which caused a disturbance in the flow of instruction. To overcome such difficulties in the future, I plan to implement proactive strategies to prevent disruptions. These strategies may include incorporating more engaging activities that cater to diverse learning styles and interests of the students.
I also liked the idea of multiple intelligences as it gives a chance for everyone to be a hero in the class and helps in inclusion.
DeleteWhich concepts, strategies, or techniques from Module 3 do you find the most sensible and practical, and what are the reasons behind your choice?
ReplyDeleteLack of Structure or Consistency creates chaos, while Individual Needs and Learning Differences require personalized support. This part was really important because I have never seen such a concept before.
2. Detail a recent challenge or instance of student misbehavior you encountered. Outline the measures you implemented to resolve it and articulate the insights gained from the experience. Considering the new techniques learned in Module 3, how would you approach and address this misbehavior differently in the future?
I remember a reluctant student of mine, he kept saying that he didnt like the task and didn't enjoy group work. I gave him another task and invited him to work independently. The problem was solved. Strategies include using interest surveys, one-on-one conversations, group discussions, and observations to discover student interests. Incorporating interests into the classroom involves offering choice and personalization, relating content to real-world examples, implementing project-based learning, using relevant resources, inviting guest speakers, leveraging technology, fostering collaborative learning, organizing field trips, and celebrating student interests through showcases. I will keep these in mind next time.
1. Which concepts, strategies, or techniques from Module 3 do you find the most sensible and practical, and what are the reasons behind your choice?
ReplyDeleteAns. I like the strategy to give surveys and questionnaire to know their choices and interest because if a teacher knows their students' interest it will be easier to make lesson plans and alter the lessons according to that.
Also I like giving them choices. students like it and it gives them sense of ownership.
I also like the tier differentiated strategy. To give them different levels and let them choose.
2. Detail a recent challenge or instance of student misbehavior you encountered. Outline the measures you implemented to resolve it and articulate the insights gained from the experience. Considering the new techniques learned in Module 3, how would you approach and address this misbehavior differently in the future?
Ans. There is a student who is always ready to fight with others and find ways to ignite a fight in the class. I used the helping hand of social worker to make him calm down but its not vey useful as its not making learning possible for him.
In future I will give him a questionnaire and will find out his interests and will try to make an individualized worksheet for him to keep him engaged in the class.
The concepts, strategies, or techniques I found most sensible are:
ReplyDeleteThe concepts of learning styles: I have learned to examine my students' learning styles and how to adapt my lessons to suit the learning styles of every learner in the classroom. Considering the learning needs or style of every learner using the VAK preference will no doubt foster learner engagement and better learning outcomes.
Causes of Misbehavior in the classroom: As a teacher, I believe knowing the root causes of misbehavior in the classroom will go a long way in helping me address, prevent, and manage misbehavior in the classroom. Additionally, I will be able to adopt workable classroom management strategies that will help in creating a safe, friendly, and supportive classroom space.
Differentiation: The idea of differentiation in the classroom really piques my interest. With differentiation, I will be able to adapt my lessons, materials, instructional methods, content, tasks, and support (scaffolding) to meet the needs of every learner in my classroom. Differentiation ensures that no learner is left behind in their learning regardless of their learning style. With differentiation, I will be able to create an inclusive classroom space where every learner thrives.
The recent misbehavior I encountered in the classroom was dealing with disruptive behavior. Early finishers who complete their tasks genuinely on time before others tend to disrupt others in their learning. To prevent such scenarios, I have learned to incorporate extension tasks in my lesson plans to cater to learners who usually finish their tasks on time. So that while they are working on their task, the other learners will also be completing their tasks at their own pace. I have learned that one of the causes of misbehavior is a lack of engagement with content and materials. If learners are fully engaged during a lesson, it will reduce disruption.
1. Which concepts, strategies, or techniques from Module 3 do you find the most sensible and practical, and what are the reasons behind your choice?
DeleteI will probably use all of the techniques in my classroom this semester. this course has opened my eyes to seeing students in a different way. this module has giving me many ideas how to keep my students engaged and still have them learn.
2. Detail a recent challenge or instance of student misbehavior you encountered. Outline the measures you implemented to resolve it and articulate the insights gained from the experience. Considering the new techniques learned in Module 3, how would you approach and address this misbehavior differently in the future?
this past semester was my first semester teaching aboard and i had a lot of challenges during my semester, but the willness not to give up I came out on top. I used the rapport technique to gain their respect and it was amazing to see the difference it made in their learning. I had one.student go from the worse performer to top of the class at the end of the semester, which made me proud as a teacher.
I guess, your learning from this course has enthralled you more passionately towards your teaching.
DeleteAs a teacher its our responsibility to transform the students towards betterment. Groom them as conscious responsible individuals with positive approach.
Delete1. Which concepts, strategies, or techniques from Module 3 do you find the most sensible and practical, and what are the reasons behind your choice?
ReplyDeleteThe concept of positive reinforcement from Module 3 makes a lot of sense. It's practical because it focuses on rewarding desired behavior, which encourages students to keep it up. Plus, it builds a positive classroom environment.
2. Detail a recent challenge or instance of student misbehavior you encountered. Outline the measures you implemented to resolve it and articulate the insights gained from the experience. Considering the new techniques learned in Module 3, how would you approach and address this misbehavior differently in the future?
Recently, a student was disruptive during group work, which affected the whole class. I addressed it by having a one-on-one conversation, setting clear expectations, and offering extra support. From this, I learned the importance of addressing issues promptly and individually. In the future, I'd also consider implementing restorative justice techniques to involve the whole class in resolving conflicts.
Yeah, I have also faced similar situations with my students who are at tomes disruptive. I have dealt with a similar approach
DeleteI think pick the leader of misbehavior is the key to manage our classes.
DeleteThrough this Unit,I understand how a successful teacher can employ differentiation strategies by:
ReplyDelete1. Understanding Learner Differences- Recognizing that each student has unique strengths, learning styles, and abilities. This involves conducting assessments to identify individual needs and preferences.
2. Grasping Student Interests- Engaging students by incorporating topics and activities that align with their interests and passions. This can be achieved through surveys, discussions, and observations to gauge student interests.
3. Tailoring Instruction- Adapting teaching methods, materials, and assessments to accommodate diverse learning styles and abilities within the classroom. This may involve providing alternative resources, varying instructional delivery methods, and offering choices in assignments.
By employing these differentiation strategies, teachers can create a more inclusive and engaging learning environment that meets the diverse needs of their students.
Individual counseling is what I usually do,when a student is found with any misbehavior issues.

1. Which concepts, strategies, or techniques from Module 3 do you find the most sensible and practical, and what are the reasons behind your choice?
DeleteI found differentiation strategies most useful to me I struggle with this area. I liked the idea of pre assessment to identify students needs and to tailor the teaching accordingly. I am still trying to figure out how to practically apply this in my classes given time constraints and other factors. The other strategies such as interest based projects seem more practical and easy to immediately put into practice.
2. Detail a recent challenge or instance of student misbehavior you encountered. Outline the measures you implemented to resolve it and articulate the insights gained from the experience. Considering the new techniques learned in Module 3, how would you approach and address this misbehavior differently in the future?
DeleteI had a student in my class whose behavior was extremely disruptive, ranging from tardiness, use of mobile and instigating private meetings at the back of the class. I tried to move him from the back but he would continue with disruptive comments in his native language even from the front desk. I tried talking to him after class to make him understand that his behavior was not appropriate. He would apologize and do the same thing the next day. His behavior made me understand that as a teacher you should always learn new techniques to improve your practice . The tools that I has applied successfully to deal with behavior were not working with that particular student. Had I know these strategies , I would have put more emphasis on the consequences for his actions and also sought further help as he was both non-compliant and disrespectful.
Delete1. Which concepts, strategies, or techniques from Module 3 do you find the most sensible and practical, and what are the reasons behind your choice?
Different types of educational needs and how to identify them. Educators can identify what students need and support them accordingly.
I found identifying multiple intelligences can make lessons more interesting and engaging. I also feel that identifying students' educational needs and incorporating VAK in teaching can enrich lessons.
ReplyDeleteI find that early finishers can be quite disruptive in class as they have nothing to engage them during the wait period for others to complete the tasks. I use challenging advanced level tasks to engage the early finishers and hence avoid disruptive behavior in my classes.
Even I agree with you Mr. Mathews Ninan that we should find what are the hidden skills or talents in each student and keep the students engaged in the class.
DeleteEven I agree with you Mr. Mathews Ninan that we should find what are the hidden skills or talents in each student and keep the students engaged in the class.
DeleteTotally agree, Millie. Many students do actually possess hidden talents and need someone to help them bring those talents out.
DeleteThe concept of positive reinforcement from this module makes a lot of sense. It's practical because it focuses on rewarding desired behavior, this becomes important when dealing with disruptive students. Those behaviours should be positively be rewarded so as to model good behaviour in such students.
ReplyDeleteI have had challenges with abuse of phones in class by students and as a way forward teachers we were given boxes to collect phones at the beginning of each by the principal and this has minimised the challenge of phones that was getting out of hand
Question 1
ReplyDeleteIncorporating students' interests in the classroom enhances motivation, fosters a supportive learning environment, and empowers them to take charge of their education. Tactics like interest surveys and technological integration facilitate personalization and differentiation in instruction.
Question 2
A student disrupted his group during a project, causing distractions. I privately discussed the issue and outlined expectations for classroom behavior, teamwork, and respecting peers. The student was encouraged to participate in the project.
1. Which concepts, strategies, or techniques from Module 3 do you find the most sensible and practical, and what are the reasons behind your choice?
ReplyDelete2. Detail a recent challenge or instance of student misbehavior you encountered. Outline the measures you implemented to resolve it and articulate the insights gained from the experience. Considering the new techniques learned in Module 3, how would you approach and address this misbehavior differently in the future?
1- Module three was a sequence of techniques and strategies that if a teacher puts into account, the teaching process will run smoothly, and students would enjoy the learning journey.
From addressing the needs into addressing them and differentiating the instruction according to students interests.
2- Recently I had a difficult student in my class, who was experiencing hard times even with his parents at home, I firstly tried to approach him and had a one to one conversation aiming to gain his confidence and and persuading him that I was there to help .
I noticed that his behavior improved and he started showing respect to the teacher and his peers as well,.
what I liked in this module was analyzing the root causes of misbehavior and address them accordingly. I also plan to cross between students needs and interests which would positively influence their academic performance.
ReplyDeleteAddressing the diverse learning needs within my classroom necessitates a thorough examination of my students' individual learning styles. By leveraging the VAK preference framework, I aim to tailor my instructional approach to accommodate the varied learning preferences of each student, thereby enhancing their engagement and facilitating optimal learning outcomes.
Understanding the underlying factors contributing to classroom misbehavior is paramount for effective classroom management. Armed with this knowledge, I am better equipped to implement proactive measures to prevent and address disruptive behaviors, fostering a conducive learning environment characterized by safety, camaraderie, and academic support.
The concept of differentiation intrigues me profoundly. It offers a framework through which I can customize my teaching methodologies, materials, and support mechanisms to cater to the unique needs of every student in my classroom. Through differentiation, I endeavor to cultivate an inclusive learning environment where every student can thrive, irrespective of their individual learning styles.
Recently, I encountered disruptive behavior stemming from early finishers completing tasks ahead of their peers. To mitigate such disruptions, I have integrated extension activities into my lesson plans, catering to the needs of these proficient learners while simultaneously allowing others to work at their own pace. I recognize that lack of engagement with instructional content and materials often underpins disruptive behaviors; thus, fostering student engagement during lessons serves as a preventive measure against such disruptions.
What I find most sensible and practical in module 3 are the techniques of interest surveys which is a crucial way to understand students preferences and also differenting tasks and instructions is vital for an engaging friendly atmosphere.
ReplyDelete2. The most challenging disruptive behavior I encountered was that my students seem to be crazy fans of football noticed in their gestures and their lost imagination finding them drawing their favorite players even writing a list of their dream pretending to do the given tasks.
To mitigate such disruption I tried to integrate names of teams in group work this proved to be successful by making the tasks more challenging and make them more engaged.
1. The concept of Multiple Intelligences (MI) stands out as sensible and practical because it acknowledges the diversity of student strengths and preferences, allowing educators to tailor instruction to individual needs effectively.
ReplyDeleteMI encourages a holistic approach to learning that fosters inclusivity and engagement in the classroom.
2. Recently, I addressed a student's disruptive behavior during group activities by implementing measures such attention grabbers.
I may include more visuals in my lesson in the future to limit the inattention.
I’m intrigued about creating an ideal classroom that is welcoming and inclusive for students to feel safe to explore, question, and learn. I constantly seek effective teaching practices that cater to diverse learning styles. Sometimes those few misbehaving students can stray the classroom in the wrong direction resulting in me losing my coolness. These days’ cellphones are a nightmare.
ReplyDelete1. Which concepts, strategies, or techniques from Module 3 do you find the most sensible and practical, and what are the reasons behind your choice?
ReplyDeleteAns: The most sensible and practical concepts, strategies, or techniques from Module 3 include:
• Understanding students' educational needs comprehensively: It ensures that educators address various aspects crucial for students' academic growth and well-being, leading to a holistic approach to student support.
• Differentiated instruction for addressing academic needs: This technique allows educators to tailor support to individual students, promoting personalized learning and academic success.

2. Detail a recent challenge or instance of student misbehavior you encountered. Outline the measures you implemented to resolve it and articulate the insights gained from the experience. Considering the new techniques learned in Module 3, how would you approach and address this misbehavior differently in the future?
Ans: Recent Challenge or Instance of Student Misbehavior:
I recently encountered a situation where a student consistently displayed disruptive behaviour during group activities, causing distractions and hindering the progress of the task. Despite verbal warnings and redirection, the behaviour persisted, negatively impacting the learning environment for other students.
To address this issue, I implemented several measures:
• Conducted a one-on-one conversation with the student to understand the underlying reasons for their behaviour and to express my concerns.
• Provided additional support and guidance during group activities to help the student stay focused and engaged.
• Collaborated with the school counsellor to develop a behaviour intervention plan tailored to the student's needs.
• Communicated regularly with the student's parents to keep them informed about the situation and to seek their support in addressing the behaviour.
Insights Gained from the Experience:
Through this experience, I realized the importance of proactive communication, individualized support, and collaboration with stakeholders in addressing student misbehaviour effectively. I also learned the significance of considering underlying factors contributing to behaviour and implementing targeted interventions to address them.
Considering the new techniques learned in Module 3, I would approach and address this misbehaviour differently in the future by:
• Conducting a thorough assessment of the student's educational needs and personal interests to tailor interventions and support strategies accordingly.
• Implementing differentiated instruction and incorporating the student's interests into classroom activities to enhance engagement and motivation.
• Collaborating with colleagues and support staff to develop a comprehensive behaviour intervention plan that addresses the student's specific needs and provides consistent support across various settings.
• Continuously monitoring the student's progress and adjusting interventions as needed to ensure their success and well-being in the classroom.
1. Which concepts, strategies, or techniques from Module 3 do you find the most sensible and practical, and what are the reasons behind your choice?
ReplyDeleteAnswer: Differentiation strategies. As a teacher, it is important for us to use varied strategies for the learners since we know that students have different learning styles and intelligence. We know that there's no such thing as one fits all. By this, we as a teacher needs to be observant to the needs of our student's and how we can help to bring the best out of them through an appropriate teaching strategy we will be using. As being said in one of the video, let's observe, assess, communicate and collaborate to help each students identify their educational needs so as address it.
2. Detail a recent challenge or instance of student misbehavior you encountered. Outline the measures you implemented to resolve it and articulate the insights gained from the experience. Considering the new techniques learned in Module 3, how would you approach and address this misbehavior differently in the future?
Answer: The student keeps on cussing and even when I asked him to write his answer on the board, he purposely put some emoji that's not appropriate. I called his attention and told him that it's not good to cuss and say those bad words. I also told him that if he keeps on doing it, I will gonna reach out to his parents and tell them his behavior in class. Considering the things I have learned in module 3, I will talk to the student and asks him as to why he keeps on saying bad words and listen to his explanation then give him an advise not to do it again and tell him that their will be a consequence if he keeps on doing the same thing. Also, investigate as where did he learn those. In my case, I have learned that he is mimicking a certain cartoon character and he keeps on watching that certain cartoon. Upon knowing it, I reached out to the parents, told them everything and advised to refrain their son to watch that certain cartoon since it has a bad influence on him. In addition, asks the parents to supervise their son/daughter further.
Some Ss usually suffering from this problems from lower grades .
Deletehave found useful the idea of different strategies of figuring out what the requirements of students, and what are their opinions regather education and behavior in the classroom.
DeleteThe idea of combining SMART goals with bloom's taxonomy is of great help.

Q2 : A recent challenge or instance of student misbehavior you encountered. Outline the measures you implemented to resolve it and articulate the insights gained from the experience. Considering the new techniques learned in Module 3, how would you approach and address this misbehavior differently in the future?
Answer . A recent challenge I encountered was disruptive behavior in the classroom. I implemented clear expectations, proximity control, and immediate feedback to address the disruptive behavior. However, reflecting on the experience and the techniques learned in Module 3, I would now focus more on understanding the root causes of the misbehavior, such as lack of engagement or individual needs, and tailor my strategies accordingly. I would also work on building positive relationships with students to prevent future misbehaviors and create a supportive classroom environment.
1. Which concepts, strategies, or techniques from Module 3 do you find the most sensible and practical, and what are the reasons behind your choice?
ReplyDeleteAns: This module was extremely insightful.I like the concept of the tier differentiated strategies as it give students freedom to choose and make them feel the sense of responsibilty and autonomy. Also it will give better chance to meet educational needs and interests better than being obliged to a tiny range of activities and educational tasks.
Reasons and factors contributing to students' misbehaviours made a lot of sense and gave clues to the teachers on the background and psychological and social reasons which may cause misbehaving. Any teacher should bear in mind these factors and try to tackle strategies to deal with them.
2.A recent challenge or instance of student misbehavior you encountered. Outline the measures you implemented to resolve it and articulate the insights gained from the experience. Considering the new techniques learned in Module 3, how would you approach and address this misbehavior differently in the future?
Ans:Actually I have faced a lot of misbehaving students but the recent one that I remember is a student who kept moving his hands up and down which made a lot of disruption for the lesson. In the beginning I thought he is doing this to make his friends laugh and I tried to talk to him many times privately until he started to behave better. In the future I will try to make a differentiation of tasks and give him personalized tasks and activities because maybe he lost interest in the lesson or he felt himself not concerned and he needs to be taken into consideration.
1. Which concepts, strategies, or techniques from Module 3 do you find the most sensible and practical, and what are the reasons behind your choice?
ReplyDeleteI found the strategies for incorporating the students' interests into the classroom so useful and practical for us as English teachers because I can apply them easily in my classroom with my students to rise their interest and motivation in learning the language.
Moreover, I found that strategies for addressing the students' misbehaviour so practical and useful for us as English teachers. I can use them well when dealing with disruptive behaviour, noncompliance, aggression, inattention and off-task behaviour, disrespectful behaviour and academic dishonesty.
2. Detail a recent challenge or instance of student misbehavior you encountered. Outline the measures you implemented to resolve it and articulate the insights gained from the experience. I have encountered some students who are suffering from academic dishonesty, I told them that their writing is not accepted and they shouldn't copy any real work. However, I can after studying this module advise them to work hard, use some useful sites to improve their writing and encourage them more to depend on themselves. I will set them some rules to clarify everything for them before asking them to do any task.
I really enjoyed learning about behavior management strategies in the classroom. It's clear that creating a positive and supportive learning environment is essential for managing student behavior, and that building relationships is key to fostering that environment.
ReplyDeleteOne aspect that particularly resonated with me was the importance of setting clear expectations and consequences for student behavior. Students need to know what is expected of them, and they need to understand the consequences for both positive and negative behavior. This helps to establish a predictable and fair classroom culture.
Overall, I found this post to be a valuable resource for educators who are looking to improve their behavior management skills.

The answers:
1] I think behavior management is the best one for me because I can make the students more active with me as a teacher. Also, it creates effective classroom environment.
2] I remember a situation that a student cheated in the exam and I gave him a zero. He came to me and told me that no one helped him at the home to study for the exam, I tried to help him with that and gae him another exam and he did well on that. Sometimes sitting and asking students is a better way to improve their desire to study.

ReplyDelete1. The most sensible and practical concepts, strategies, and techniques from Module 3 are related to discovering and incorporating student interests into the classroom. Understanding and leveraging student interests is essential for creating an engaging and motivating learning environment. By using interest surveys, group discussions, and observations to discover interests, and incorporating these interests into lessons through choice, personalization, and real-world connections, educators can enhance student engagement, participation, and overall enjoyment of the learning process.
2. A recent challenge I encountered was a student consistently exhibiting disruptive behavior during group activities, such as talking loudly, interrupting others, and refusing to follow instructions. To address this, I initially used proximity control by moving closer to the student during activities, provided clear behavior expectations, and offered positive reinforcement for positive behavior. Reflecting on this experience and considering techniques from Module 3, in the future, I would assess the underlying cause of the behavior, consider the student's interests and learning style, and tailor activities to align with their preferences. I would emphasize clear communication, empathy, and differentiated instruction to address the student's needs effectively while promoting positive behavior and engagement in the classroom.
Dealing with misbehavior is hard for teachers, the new generation is hard to deal with. there are huge number of students in the classrooms.
ReplyDeleteit is really important to know how to deal with them and engage them in the lesson
That's true Asma. Managing the unwanted behavior and setting clear directions for students towards what is accepted and what is not accepted inside the classroom is highly important. I tried the idea of (classroom contract) with my grade 7 students to get rid of unwanted behavior and it went very well because students were in charge of making the rules in the contract.

By using interest surveys, group discussions, and observations to discover interests, and incorporating these interests into lessons through choice, personalization, and real-world connections, educators can enhance student engagement, participation, and overall enjoyment of the learning process.
ReplyDelete2.
It is important as teachers to remind ourselves to target our teaching towards a VAK approach.
ReplyDeleteSome teachers taylor their lessons in the only way that they tend to learn.
It is a good idea to sometimes get out of our comfort zone and to adapt new strategies and techniques of teaching!
Even if it failed or wasn't 100% successful, that's okay! That's how we learn to improve ouf lessons!
It is a journey of learning for both students and teachers!
So, don't be afraid to try new ways!
Happy teaching!! 😊
Question answers :
ReplyDelete1- This semester, I'll most likely apply all of the approaches in my classroom. This course has changed the way I see pupils. This module has given me numerous ideas on how to keep my students involved while also having them study.
2- I've seen several pupils who are engaging in academic dishonesty; I warned them that their writing is unacceptable and that they should not replicate any authentic work. However, after completing this module, I may urge them to work hard, use some helpful websites to better their writing, and encourage them to rely more on themselves. Before assigning them any tasks, I will establish certain ground rules to ensure that they understand everything.
1. The strategies used to deal with students' misbehavior. I found the treasons mentioned are very realistic because students would tend to behave in a disruptive way if the loose motivation, have academic difficulties or try to get the teacher attention. The teacher needs to analyze the behavior to find out the perfect solutions for solving that certain behavior.
ReplyDelete2. Recently, I dealt with a disruptive student who struggled with staying on task during group activities. To address this, I provided individualized attention, modified tasks to match their interests and abilities, offered positive reinforcement, and encouraged peer support. Insights gained include the importance of catering to each student's needs and building positive relationships. In the future, I'll continue matching students' needs by assessing their preferences, regularly checking in, and utilizing diverse learning opportunities with the support of colleagues and educational technology.
Which concepts, strategies, or techniques from Module 3 do you find the most sensible and practical, and what are the reasons behind your choice?
ReplyDeleteThis module provided a great deal of insight. The idea of tier-differentiated techniques appeals to me because it gives pupils flexibility and a sense of autonomy and responsibility.Additionally, it will provide a greater opportunity to fulfill hobbies and educational needs than being forced to participate in a limited number of events and assignments.
The causes and contributing variables to the misbehavior of the kids made a lot of sense and provided teachers with hints on the social and psychological backgrounds and potential causes of misbehavior. It is important for educators to consider these concerns and develop solutions to address them.
2. Detail a recent challenge or instance of student misbehavior you encountered. Outline the measures you implemented to resolve it and articulate the insights gained from the experience. Considering the new techniques learned in Module 3, how would you approach and address this misbehavior differently in the future?
One student, continuously distracted his peers, talked off-topic, and refused to participate in the group activity during a recent group project in the classroom. This behavior not only impeded the activity's advancement but also disturbed the other pupils' learning environment.
Measures implemented:
Initially, I redirected the students attention back to the task at hand by calmly reminding him of the group's objectives and expectations.
When he continued to disrupt the group despite redirection, I discreetly moved closer to him to provide individual support and encouragement, hoping to engage him more actively in the activity.
As the disruption persisted, I employed a brief time-out strategy, asking the student to take a short break from the group to reflect on his behavior and its impact on others.
After the activity, I privately spoke with him to discuss his behavior, express my concerns, and collaborate on finding strategies to prevent similar incidents in the future. I also reinforced positive behavior by acknowledging any constructive contributions he made during the activity.
Gained insights:
In order to preserve a pleasant learning environment, it is critical to swiftly and proactively handle instances of misconduct by students. I also discovered how important it is to employ a variety of techniques, including time-outs, proximity control, redirection, and tailored support, to effectively deal with misconduct while upholding the dignity and respect of the offending student.
New strategy based on methods from Module 3:
Going forward, I would include restorative practices in my strategy for dealing with misbehavior from students. I would place more of an emphasis on mending hurts, developing connections, and encouraging a sense of accountability and belonging within the classroom community than I would on merely enforcing rules. For instance, I may lead the student and his peers in a restorative circle where we would candidly address the consequences of his behavior, look into the underlying causes of it, and work together to come up with ways to stop it from happening again. To better meet the needs of all students, including those who might struggle with behavioral challenges, I would also keep improving my classroom management techniques, which include proactive reinforcement of positive behavior, clear communication of expectations, and differentiation of instruction.
Thank you very much for such informative course. This courses really open my eyes on different strategies that I am ready from today to apply it in my classrooms. Regarding to Q2 The recent challenge was the working students and how to follow them. And to make sure that they are following our module plan.
ReplyDelete1. Which concepts, strategies, or techniques from Module 3 do you find the most sensible and practical, and what are the reasons behind your choice?
ReplyDeleteOne of the most sensible and practical is the VAK. We need to recognize the learning styles of our students. We need to identify our students learning style whether visual learner, auditory learner or tactile learner or it can be a multiple learning styles.
I also like the concepts on exploring multiple intelligences (MI) in our student learning. It is very helpful for the teachers in dealings with the students if you know their MI.
2. Detail a recent challenge or instance of student misbehavior you encountered. Outline the measures you implemented to resolve it and articulate the insights gained from the experience. Considering the new techniques learned in Module 3, how would you approach and address this misbehavior differently in the future?
I have this group of students who are not inattention and off-task behavior in my classroom. You can see them talking to each other and some of them are busy doing some browsing in their mobiles. What I did was, I gave examples more related to their interests and I giave them a task (group activity) and I asked them to present it in front.
In my practice I have been dealing with a disruptive behaviour of a know-all student. He has been shouting out all the answers prior to anyone even having a chance to think or produce an utterance. Since I'm teaching university students, I appealed to his grown-up skills of communication and encouraged him working together with other students either in a group or in a peer activity, which encouraged the student's involvement
ReplyDelete1. The concept I find most sensible and practical is "Addressing Students Misbehavior". This is an issue today because most learners tend to have one Misbehavior or the other and enlightening us on how to deal with them it is a plus for us.
ReplyDelete2. I have a learner in my class who was aggressive. Always hitting his classmates at the slightest opportunity. What I did then was to seperate and Isolate him from others. Going forward, I will encourage them to express their feelings in healthier ways.
1. Which concepts, strategies, or techniques from Module 3 do you find the most sensible and practical, and what are the reasons behind your choice?
ReplyDeleteI found all these concepts and strategies discussed in Module 3 are useful for an educator because of the advantages of implementing them in student centered and practical oriented course delivery in an inclusive learning environment.
The concepts and strategies discussed in detail are useful for an educator who wants to mold their students as the best person for the society as well as for the nation.
• The need of variety teaching methods to cater the needs of students with different learning styles.
• The role of MI in teaching to create an inclusive learning environment
• Fostering an environment conductive to learning and growth by identifying and addressing the educational needs of students. The role of differentiation strategies for an inclusive classroom.
• How to identify the root causes of student's misbehavior and how to handle them effectively?
2. Detail a recent challenge or instance of student misbehavior you encountered. Outline the measures you implemented to resolve it and articulate the insights gained from the experience. Considering the new techniques learned in Module 3, how would you approach and address this misbehavior differently in the future?
The misbehavior of students like coming late to the class, disregard of deadlines etc. were handled effectively by calling the respective students individually after the class and convincing them about the seriousness of their actions and how it will affect the teacher as well as other students. As part of improving the class participation of weaker students, extra classes were arranged so that they were able to the fill the gaps in their studies in the course like Java programming and passed with higher grades. The student must feel that the teacher is caring about their studies. Through proper appreciation for their achievement, students will show more interest in the course, and they will become more engaged in their academic activities.

ReplyDelete1.- I chose the idea of engaging with colleagues and other members of the educational community as a technique for identifying students' educational needs and implementing differentiated instruction like providing different tasks and assessment instruments. I believe teachers should know students´ backgrounds to provide an educational setting where pupils can feel integrated into the educational community.
2.- In my experience as a teacher I have encountered many disruptive actions by learners. To deal with it I use to implement strategies like conversations in an individualized way with those who are involved trying to explain that we as human beings need to learn to understand and be flexible instead of having aggressive reactions. I think, in the future, I will continue to explore more strategies like engagement activities and the promotion of effective relationships.
Q1. Strategies for addressing students' misbehavior and incorporating students' interest in learning are the topics that are more practical and sensible for me in Module 3. They are related to each other because if you incorporate your students' interests in the lesson, you won't have misbehaviors.
ReplyDeleteQ2. It is not a recent situation but one that I still remember. I had a certain problem in the class so I wrote an email describing the problem and I gave it to the class and asked them to write me replies with solutions. After reading their replies I discussed their suggestions with them and we agreed on some points (Consequences).
ReplyDeleteI find the strategy of "Holding group discussions and brainstorming sessions" to discover student interests particularly sensible and practical. This approach allows for active student participation and engagement, allowing them to express their thoughts, ideas, and interests openly. Group discussions and brainstorming sessions foster a collaborative learning environment where students can share their perspectives, learn from each other, and feel valued. Additionally, these activities promote critical thinking, communication skills, and social interaction among students, which are essential components of holistic learning.
Recently, I encountered a challenge with a student who consistently displayed disruptive behavior during class discussions. This student frequently interrupts the teacher and classmates, makes inappropriate comments, and refuses to follow instructions. To address this behavior, I initially tried employing traditional disciplinary measures such as verbal warnings and temporary removal from the classroom. However, these interventions did not significantly improve the student's conduct.
Reflecting on this experience, I realize the importance of understanding the underlying causes of the student's misbehavior and addressing them proactively. In the future, I would approach this situation differently by implementing strategies learned in Module 3, such as building rapport, addressing diverse learning needs, and promoting positive behavior management techniques. Instead of solely focusing on discipline, I would strive to establish a supportive relationship with the student, actively listen to their concerns, and involve them in collaborative problem-solving discussions. Additionally, I would incorporate differentiated instruction strategies to cater to the student's individual learning preferences and provide opportunities for meaningful engagement and participation in class activities. By adopting a more holistic approach to behavior management and leveraging the insights gained from Module 3, I aim to create a positive and inclusive learning environment conducive to the student's academic and social-emotional growth.
I had several experiences of students interrupting the lessons, and making rude comments, amongst other things. I also address these behaviors using traditional disciplinary measures. I will surely try to employ the suggested strategies in this module when I go back to class on monday.
Delete1. Which concepts, strategies, or techniques from Module 3 do you find the most sensible and practical, and what are the reasons behind your choice?
ReplyDeleteAnswer: Among the concepts presented in Module 3, I find the VAK audit and its results can be used in creating learning activities that will cater to different learning styles of students most sensible and practical. I have lessons planned using VAKs. It is practical and doable compared with other learning strategies such as the MIs. In my opinion, it isn’t easy to accommodate all intelligences in all lessons. It may be addressed through a school-wide curriculum.
2. Detail a recent challenge or instance of student misbehavior you encountered. Outline the measures you implemented to resolve it and articulate the insights gained from the experience. Considering the new techniques learned in Module 3, how would you approach and address this misbehavior differently in the future?
Answer: I had a student in my homeroom class who was considered a problematic student. He was kicked out of his previous school due to bad behavior – he was an aggressive type. The first thing that I did was to gain his trust. He always feels that no one is on his side and that every time he gets into trouble, no one believes him. I just made sure that I listened to him first every time he got into trouble. I empathized with him and then made him understand what was wrong with the way he dealt with his emotions. I also gave him some responsibility in the classroom. When I was not around, I entrusted the peace and order of the classroom to him. I also made him write a promise to control his emotions and he identified the consequences or punishment for his misbehaviors. I also talked to his other subject teachers about how to deal with him. Everybody thought that he would not be able to move up that school year because of his previous notorious behavior. However, he successfully moved up to senior high school.
1. Which concepts, strategies, or techniques from Module 3 do you find the most sensible and practical, and what are the reasons behind your choice?
ReplyDeleteThe most interesting and vital strategy I learnt was about VAK
learning styles. I am surely going to check out my students' learning styles and how to adapt my lessons to suit the learning styles of every learner in the classroom with preferences on their learning styles of every learner. I believe that the students will discover the diverse learning outcomes does make the class really interesting and by its approach we can surely guarantee a good rapport as well. Interestingly, Multiple Intelligences (MI) also is something that I would like to try.The reason is simple it acknowledges the fact that all students are unique. Besides, it helps the teachers to understand various strengths and preferences,of the student's learning abilities.

Firstly, I would like to thank you Mr.Ossama for this very informative course it opened my eyes to very different aspects of accommodating student's needs, and I'm very excited to implement the different strategies learned.
ReplyDeleteI found that the scaffolding strategy is very interesting, giving students guidance and then giving them the space to be creative with the information learned will boost their confidence and enhance their understanding.
Also, the importance of using differentiated instruction to accommodate different learning needs using VAK activities.
I've found the strategies for addressing student's needs very informative as they gave me a clear guide on how to fairly assess and accommodate their learning styles.
This year I have a student who has more than one of the mentioned misbehaviors, He is disruptive, disrespectful, and aggressive toward his classmates.
It was a big challenge but some of the steps I took were very helpful in my situation.
Private conversation: I had multiple conversations with the student demonstrating clear expectations, and emphasizing respectful communication, I let him decide on a few verbal and visual Ques to get him back on track without addressing him.
Class discussions: reminding the whole class of our classroom agreements and encouraging kind acts.
building trust with the student helped him to start communicating more safely in the class and around the school.

During a class discussion, a student repeatedly interrupts others and makes disrespectful comments towards his classmates and the teacher.I used the following strategies and found them effective.
Immediate Intervention: I dealt with his behavior quickly but gently to avoid interfering with the lesson's flow. Inform the student of the expectations for polite behavior and the regulations of the classroom.
Private Conversation: Had a private discussion about the student's actions with him after class. I used active listening techniques to understand the underlying reasons for their actions.
Restorative Approach: I urged the student to consider how his behaviors affect other people and accept accountability for his actions.
Positive Reinforcement: This worked incredibly well. I saw a significant shift in the student when I recognised and complimented him for exhibiting positive behaviour, such contributing to class discussions and showing respect to others. I gave the student the chance to take charge of a group project and elevated him to the position of class leader. He is truly a different student now, with all due respect.

I had a unique case with a group of students in my class who would as a team regularly interrupt learning and teaching almost daily.
DeleteOne of the days in class, my aim was to discover who is their pivot whom I later approached over break time, had a chat with him and agreed on a few things for both of us to implement. This has seen the team now been part of the most engaged and attentive in class.
In future in case of such an occurrence, I will take the shortest time to explore the individual needs of the involved.

One of the things I consider as a misbehaviour is when students don't follow the rule of "No Arabic in Class"; especially at the intermediate level and above. The thing is they are able to use English all along the class time, but they think that it's something cool to use Arabic in class. To be fair, some students forget the rule, so I keep reminding them of it. Actually, I punish them when they break the rule by pushing to repeat what they have said in English. I wouldn't consider it much of a punishment, but it's the reaction I have when they do so. I also praise those who use English to express their mind during discussions. It makes others a little jealous and they end up immitating him/ her to hear some compliments from me.

During class presentation by students: some students tried to be in spotlight and asked some irrelevant questions and tried to distract the class. I intervened and asked the students to please reserve the questions wherein the presenter and I would stay back after the class to answer the questions. I felt the presenter was uncomfortable and I empathized with the presenter.
I find the concept of differentiated instruction to be the most sensible and practical strategy from Module 3. Differentiated instruction recognizes that students have diverse learning styles, strengths, and needs, and it tailors teaching methods and content to meet those individual differences. This approach allows me to provide personalized learning experiences that cater to each student's unique abilities and challenges.
ReplyDeleteThe reasons behind my choice include:1. Personalization: Differentiated instruction allows me to personalize learning experiences for students, taking into account their interests, learning preferences, and readiness levels. This individualized approach can help engage students more effectively and enhance their understanding of the content.
2. Inclusivity: By differentiating instruction, I can create inclusive classrooms where all students, regardless of their learning abilities or backgrounds, can access the curriculum and succeed academically. This approach promotes equity and ensures that every student receives the support they need to thrive.
3. Flexibility: Differentiated instruction offers flexibility in teaching methods, assessments, and materials, allowing me to adapt their instruction based on students' progress and feedback. This adaptability ensures that students receive the appropriate level of challenge and support throughout their learning journey.
4. Improved outcomes: differentiated instruction can lead to improved academic outcomes for students, including higher achievement levels, increased motivation, and enhanced critical thinking skills. By catering to students' individual needs, I can help them reach their full potential.
2-One recent challenge I faced was a disruptive student who was talking out of turn. After a one-on-one conversation, I learned they were bored and unchallenged. I adjusted my teaching to provide more engaging activities. In the future, I will use differentiated instruction and set clear expectations to address misbehavior effectively.
For me, the key areas covered in Module 3 include differentiated instruction, the concept of multiple intelligences (MI), and addressing students’ learning needs. I chose those 3 main concepts since they are very practical in classroom management. First, differentiation guarantees customized learning experiences. Second, Multiple Intelligences theory recognizes varied students’ talents, and we should respect their intelligence, aside from drawing attention to the fact that some learners may be smarter than teachers. Finally, addressing students' needs promotes holistic learners' support and keeps them closer to instructors within a tailored authority and manageable framework.
ReplyDeleteIn reflection on my experience, I remember that recently, a student showed disruptive behavior with too much use of his smartphone in the class as a result of being uninterested and not participating in a group activity. I addressed the issue by clearly defining the set outcomes, promptly giving feedback, and suggesting alternate assignments to revive interest. Later, I tailored some activities for which students had to use their smartphones to demonstrate the double-edged nature of such an act.
My Module 3 insights indicate that employing proactive engagement tactics, such as utilizing diverse instructional methods, might help reduce disengagement. In addition, creating a nurturing classroom atmosphere and attending to individual requirements will help manage disruptive behavior in the future.
I fully agree with Mohammed Abugohar's insights on Module 3. Differentiated instruction, multiple intelligences, and addressing student needs are crucial for effective classroom management. These concepts allow for personalized learning, respect for diverse talents, and holistic student support, creating engaging and inclusive classrooms.
DeleteI find the idea from Module 3 of how students learn to understand and discover their strengths to be a very practical, meaningful one. By knowing how students learn best and what they are good at, we can shape our teaching to be more effective. .
ReplyDeleteThis means creating a fun and inclusive learning environment, which ultimately leads to the best results.
I recently faced a challenge with a student disrupting a group assignment. Despite reminders about classroom rules, the disruptive behavior continued. I decided to have a one-on-one conversation with the student to get to the root cause. It was found that the student felt bored and unfulfilled with the current assignments. This experience taught me the importance of considering the individual needs and interests of my students, as misbehavior can often be a symptom of underlying issues.
In the future, I will use the insights from Module 3 to better differentiate my teaching and cater to different learning styles and interests to provide more motivating activities for students, prevent boredom and reduce disruptive behavior.
I agree with what you have said, make my teaching more enjoyable and meaning full i will also follow the above mentioned strategies.
Deleteyes, true i agree with you Mr. Hyder, differentiation tasks are very

In my class there is a male student who was absent for a lot of time and when he came back ,he did not show and started to disrupt the class with comments and silly jokes. I called him to my office and talked to him. I showed him caring and sympathy and how i expected him to be a role model for other male students and even i used to give him assignments as a kind of revision , he did all well.
I like the practicality of integrating VAK learning styles to empower students and make them more responsible for their learning experience. I believe that giving students control of their learning will boost their motivation and sense of responsibility towards it.
ReplyDeleteUpon reflection, I recall an incident where two female students were displaying disruptive behavior in class by excessively using their smartphone. It seemed like they were disinterested and not engaging in the group activity. To address this, I explained the activities outcomes, provided feedback, and suggested alternative assignments to help spark their interest. Additionally, I created activities that required students to use their smartphones to demonstrate both the positive and negative consequences of such behavior.
Excellent idea Carmel. The activity that you created was really resourceful and innovative.
Delete1. Which concepts, strategies, or techniques from Module 3 do you find the most sensible and practical, and what are the reasons behind your choice
ReplyDeleteI found that teachers can leverage a range of strategies to address students' unique needs, fostering an environment where all students flourish. These strategies include differentiated instruction, small group sessions, individualized learning plans, peer tutoring, ongoing assessment, targeted interventions, and technology integration. By personalizing learning, teachers can provide tailored support and guidance, ensuring every student reaches their full potential.
During a group activity , I noticed a student erupt in loud laughter and talking, distracting her peers.
ReplyDeleteFirst I tried Proximity Control. I calmly walked near her group, made eye contact to subtly remind her of expected behavior without interrupting the entire group. I notice that It didn’t work well. So, I decided to try another strategy. In a later class, I tried immediate feedback with her. I privately addressed her reminded her of the classroom noise expectations and how her behavior is affecting others. She responded well to this strategy & I provided her with positive reinforcement later.
One approach from Module 3 that I find especially logical and applicable is the concept of "Differentiated Instruction." This method entails customizing teaching techniques, content, and evaluation methods to suit the diverse needs and learning preferences of students. I consider this approach highly practical because it recognizes the unique abilities, interests, and backgrounds of students, emphasizing the necessity of adjusting instruction to accommodate these diversities.
ReplyDeleteThrough the implementation of differentiated instruction, educators can ensure that every student receives relevant and meaningful learning opportunities tailored to their specific requirements. This may involve adjusting the speed or complexity of instruction, providing alternative learning materials or resources, and offering various assessment methods to allow students to showcase their understanding in diverse ways.
In a recent class, a student repeatedly disrupted the lesson by talking loudly to classmates, making jokes, and refusing to follow instructions. This behavior not only disrupted the learning environment but also negatively impacted the engagement of other students.
Measures Implemented:
I addressed the disruptive behavior promptly by calmly but firmly redirecting the student's attention back to the lesson and reminding them of the classroom expectations.
Private Conversation: After the class, I had a private conversation with the student to discuss their behavior and its impact on their learning and that of their peers. I listened to their perspective and expressed my expectations for respectful behavior in the classroom.
This is really important because differentiation techniques enable each student to be active on his own based on his/their level.
Delete1. Which concepts, strategies, or techniques from Module 3 do you find the most sensible and practical, and what are the reasons behind your choice?

In a recent incident in my class, a student began talking on his mobile phone in the middle of the lesson despite my attempts to stop him. His reaction was rather arrogant, which prompted me to call him for an advising session after class and refer him to his advisor. During our conversation, the student expressed apologetic sentiments. Reflecting on this incident, I realize the importance of understanding the underlying factors contributing to such behavior. I may have overlooked external influences like family dynamics or psychological factors in my initial response. Moving forward, I will consider these aspects more attentively when addressing disruptive behavior to ensure a more sympathetic and effective approach.
The Most Sensible and Practical Techniques for me were:
ReplyDelete- Employing Differentiation Strategies, especially the idea of giving differentiated assessments to the students to choose from fosters a more inclusive environment and can significantly improve learning outcomes by catering to individual strengths and weaknesses.
-Integrating Student Interests into Classroom Activities: This strategy is sensible because it leverages students' natural curiosities and passions, making learning more relevant and engaging. By tapping into these interests, educators can inspire a love for learning and foster a creative learning environment.
Misbehaviour story and response:
I had a student who consistently disrupted class by talking out of turn, distracting peers and hindering lesson progression. I initially responded by implementing more strict classroom rules and frequently reminding the students of these rules during class.
However, I realized that the behaviour might indicate the student seeking attention or not being sufficiently challenged by the lesson material. I think that in the future, I would approach with new techniques from Module 3: I would employ strategies from understanding the causes of misbehaviours, such as investigating if the student's needs are met or if the content is engaging enough.

for disruptive students who refuse to communicate, we need to engage them by analysing their interest to know what they really like to do and by this ewe can have their attention
ReplyDeleteWhich concepts, strategies, or techniques from Module 3 do you find the most sensible and practical, and what are the reasons behind your choice?
ReplyDeleteThe two most important concepts pertaining to the VAK and MI. It is essential to identify the students learning needs, for that we must know what is the level of the student, there knowledge skills and abilities. There preferences, attitudes and personality . This will help greatly the learners to foster the best education and learning practices. For student engagement, interest and motivation we should follow a systematic approach:
First Identify their learning styles based on VAK or we can incorporate a combination of all three.
Secondly educators can incorporate Multiple intelligence based design lessons according to the course learning outcome requirements.
Thirdly provide support with positive reinforcement and addressing the social as well as emotional issues for better learning learning engagement.
Next comes the Educational needs. Educators can use variety of methods for example Individualized learning plans, targeted interventions, projects, while utilizing latest user-friendly tools and tech for teaching and learning. ReplyDeleteDuring my teaching career, I had faced three types of Misbehaviors:
First: Lake of Interest and Engagement: to address the issue. I developed and design the material, presentations, activities, to engage the students. Incorporating Videos, some hand one role m modeling , and role playing activities and exercises.
Second: Lack of Motivation: I had applied. special mentoring, discussion, support groups, peer reinforcement and individualized learning plans.
Third: Non Compliance: For this type of cases, first of all in the beginning of the sessions i made every thing crystal clear with detailed instructions in black and white with consequences. As a result the students who did not comply, faced the repercussions like marks deduction, penalties, or failing assessments.
For reinforcement and motivation i encourage the students to speak up and share there apprehension openly but within the decorum and modesty, not crossing redlines or limits.
At the same time maintaining friendly environment and sharing interesting events in the classes always related to the study topics.

Almost a decade ago once I returned assignments to a group of students and asked them to go through the comments I had written. I also wanted them to correct the mistakes that I had underlined . I noticed that one of the students immediately folded the assignment, stuffed it in her bag and started avoiding eye contact with me. When I asked her to open and read the comments she didn't comply and kept looking at the floor. I was unable to understand her unusual behavior. I decided to dig deeper to know the reason behind her obstinate behavior. I promised her my full support not only with that assignment but also with other tasks if she could let me know the reason behind her refusal to open the assignment. When I finally persuaded her to speak, she said only one sentence and started crying " how can I look at it when it is all red" . That was the moment I decided never to use red color pen for formative assessments. Since then I also make sure that I don't highlight every single mistake in writing assignments as it gives the students the impression that their work is worthless. I rather highlight only one example of common and frequent mistakes and ask them to find other similar mistakes and correct them.

ReplyDeleteA recent academic encounter:
Last year, Mr. X was always the first to challenge ideas in class discussions. He thrived on role play, often arguing for his perspective. However, as the semester progressed, his arguments became less about proving everyone wrong and more about exploring different angles which at one point became more intolerant.
During a term 3 project, Mr. X naturally took on a leading role. This changed his behaviour in addressing others need. Instead of dominating the discussions, he facilitated them, ensuring everyone's voice was heard. He encouraged collaboration and synthesized diverse opinions into cohesive plans.
His classmates noticed the change. And I commented that you have changed. Mr. X smiled. "I've learned that being a leader isn't about winning arguments. It's about bringing out the best in everyone."
As the research project concluded successfully, Mr. X realized that his journey from argumentative student to collaborative leader was not just about changing his approach, but about embracing the power of teamwork and respect for others' viewpoints.
Mr. X’s evolution serves as compelling evidence of education’s profound influence on individuals. His transition from an assertive debater to a collaborative leader underscores growth, empathy, and a resolute dedication to positive transformation.
DeleteOnce I faced with a situation where a student copied a project from the internet and then argued about it. I had to meet him in person to express my concern about the copied work and emphasized the importance of originality and learning. Next, educated the student on what plagiarism is and its consequences. Encouraged him to understand the material and complete assignments independently. Reiterated the class rules regarding academic integrity and the expectation to produce their own work. Encouraged self-reflection by asking the student to consider the impact on his learning journey and integrity.
ReplyDeleteInspired by this module, I’m considering organizing a guest lecture focused on plagiarism and ethical conduct. Such a lecture can significantly impact students’ understanding and behavior for their future success.
